Terms of Service
Effective October 29, 2026.
These terms are an agreement between you and Farside Research LLC, a West Virginia limited liability company ("Farside", "we", "us"). They govern your use of farsideresearch.com, the Farside Research web app, the REST API, hosted MCP and related services (the "Service"). Please read them carefully, including the sections on research outputs, limitation of liability and dispute resolution.
1. Accepting these terms
By creating an account, using an API key, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you use the Service for an organization, you confirm that you are authorized to accept these terms for it, and "you" includes that organization.
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract. The Service is intended for professional and business research and is not directed to children.
If you have a separate signed agreement with us for the Service, that agreement controls where it conflicts with these terms.
2. Accounts and organizations
Provide accurate account information and keep it current. Keep passwords and API keys secure and tell us promptly at support@farsideresearch.com if you suspect unauthorized use. You are responsible for activity under your account and keys, including activity by members of your organization, integrations, scripts and AI agents you connect to the Service.
Organization administrators control membership, roles, keys, billing and data settings for their organization.
3. Plans, credits and billing
Paid plans are billed in advance and renew automatically for the same term, at the then-current price, until cancelled. You can cancel from Billing at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period. Fees are stated before you purchase and exclude taxes, which you are responsible for.
Research capacity is measured in credits. Each paid action shows its credit price before it runs. Credits are reserved when work starts, and unused reserved credits return automatically when work fails or is cancelled. Credits have no cash value and cannot be transferred or sold. Monthly plan credits roll forward and prepaid credit packs remain usable only as described on the pricing page.
Overage and auto top-up are off unless an administrator turns them on, and they follow the limits that administrator sets. We may change prices for future billing periods with notice before the change applies to you.
Refunds are handled under the Refund Policy. Credits consumed by completed work are not refundable because of the content, accuracy or usefulness of a research output.
4. Your content
You keep ownership of the questions, files, instructions and other material you submit ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited license to host, copy, process, transmit and display Your Content only as needed to provide, secure and support the Service for you.
We do not use Your Content or your research outputs to train our models or a provider model.
You are responsible for Your Content and confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed to submit it, including any personal data it contains. Do not submit information you are not allowed to share.
5. Research outputs and third-party sources
Farside Research uses automated systems, including large language models, to search for, read, summarize and analyze sources and to generate reports, answers (including answers from Ask), scores, charts, figures and other outputs ("Outputs"). Outputs are generated automatically by AI and are not reviewed by a person before you receive them. Automated research has real limits. Outputs can be incomplete, outdated, biased or wrong. They can misread or misstate a source, attribute a claim to the wrong source, miss relevant evidence, or present an uncertain conclusion with more confidence than the evidence supports.
Sources are third-party content that we do not create, control, endorse or verify. They can be inaccurate, outdated, unavailable, contradictory or unlawful, and their owners keep their rights in them. A citation shows where a statement came from; it does not guarantee that the statement or the source is correct. Quality scores, relevance scores, confidence labels and similar ratings are automated estimates, not verification.
Outputs are for information and research purposes only. They are not legal, financial, investment, tax, accounting, medical, engineering or other professional advice, and they do not create a professional relationship. Before relying on an Output for any decision that matters, independently verify it against the underlying sources and consult a qualified professional where appropriate. You are solely responsible for how you use Outputs and for the decisions you make with them.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Farside is not responsible or liable for any false, inaccurate, incomplete or outdated information in an Output or in a source it cites or relies on, or for any decision you make, action you take or loss you suffer because you relied on an Output or a source. Sections 10 and 11 apply to Outputs and sources in full.
As between you and us, and to the extent we have rights in them, you own the Outputs generated for your account. Outputs may be similar to outputs generated for other customers, and we do not claim that an Output is unique or free of third-party rights. You are responsible for respecting the rights of source owners when you copy, publish or share an Output or material it quotes.
Do not direct the Service to access content you are not permitted to access, such as paywalled or login-protected material, and you are responsible for the sites and sources you ask it to use.
6. Acceptable use
You must use the Service lawfully and follow the Acceptable Use Policy, which is part of these terms. Do not use the Service, or Outputs, as the sole basis for decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on an individual, such as decisions about credit, employment, housing, insurance or eligibility for benefits.
7. API, MCP and integrations
API and MCP access is subject to these terms, the published documentation, scoped keys and rate limits. When you connect an AI assistant, agent or other tool to the Service, you are responsible for what it requests and for any credits it spends. Third-party tools you connect are governed by their own terms, and we are not responsible for them.
8. Our service and intellectual property
We and our licensors own the Service, including its software, design, documentation and models, and everything we provide other than Your Content and Outputs. These terms do not transfer any of those rights to you. You may not copy, resell, reverse engineer or build a competing service from the Service, except as law allows despite this restriction.
If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without obligation to you.
We may add, change or remove features to keep the Service secure, reliable and useful. Breaking API changes follow the published change policy and receive notice when practical. Beta and preview features are provided for evaluation, may change or end at any time, and are provided as is.
If you believe content available through the Service infringes your copyright, email support@farsideresearch.com with a description of the work, the material and where it appears, your contact details, a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized, a statement under penalty of perjury that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner, and your physical or electronic signature. We may remove or disable access to the material and end the accounts of repeat infringers.
9. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access, with notice when practical, if you breach these terms, fail to pay, create risk or harm for us, other customers or third parties, or if we are required to by law. We may also stop offering the Service with reasonable advance notice.
Export any data you want to keep before your account ends. After it ends, we delete your data as described in the Privacy Policy and the Data Processing Addendum, unless law requires us to keep it longer. Sections that by their nature should survive, including those on fees owed, Your Content, research outputs, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, dispute resolution and governing law, survive termination.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICE, OUTPUTS AND ALL SOURCES AND OTHER CONTENT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ANY WARRANTY ARISING FROM COURSE OF DEALING OR USAGE OF TRADE.
WITHOUT LIMITING THE ABOVE, WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT OUTPUTS OR SOURCES ARE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, CURRENT, RELIABLE OR SUITABLE FOR ANY PURPOSE, THAT A CITATION SUPPORTS THE STATEMENT IT IS ATTACHED TO, THAT ANY RELEVANT SOURCE WILL BE FOUND, OR THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OR SECURE. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THESE EXCLUSIONS, SO SOME OF THEM MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
11. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, FARSIDE RESEARCH LLC AND ITS MEMBERS, MANAGERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, LICENSORS AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, BUSINESS, GOODWILL OR DATA, OR ANY LOSS ARISING FROM DECISIONS MADE IN RELIANCE ON OUTPUTS OR SOURCES, EVEN IF WE WERE ADVISED THAT SUCH DAMAGES WERE POSSIBLE.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100).
These limits apply to every legal theory, including contract, tort (including negligence), strict liability and statute, and apply even if a limited remedy fails of its essential purpose. They are an essential part of the bargain between us. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of these limits may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
12. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you will defend, indemnify and hold harmless Farside Research LLC and its members, managers, employees and contractors from any third-party claim, and related losses, damages and reasonable costs including legal fees, arising out of Your Content, your use of the Service or Outputs, your violation of these terms or the Acceptable Use Policy, or your violation of any law or third-party right. We will give you prompt notice of the claim and reasonable cooperation, and you may not settle a claim that imposes an obligation on us without our written consent.
13. Dispute resolution and arbitration
Please read this section carefully. It affects your rights, including your right to go to court.
Before filing any claim, the party raising the dispute must send a written notice describing it to the other party (to us at support@farsideresearch.com, and to you at your account email) and try in good faith to resolve it informally for at least 30 days.
If the dispute is not resolved, you and we agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or the Service will be resolved by final and binding individual arbitration administered by JAMS under its Streamlined or Comprehensive Arbitration Rules as applicable, including its Consumer Minimum Standards where they apply. This arbitration agreement is governed by the Federal Arbitration Act. A court, not the arbitrator, decides whether the class and representative action waiver below is enforceable; the arbitrator decides all other questions of arbitrability. Either party may instead bring an individual claim in small claims court if it qualifies, and either party may seek injunctive relief in court to protect its intellectual property or confidential information.
YOU AND WE EACH WAIVE THE RIGHT TO A JURY TRIAL AND AGREE THAT CLAIMS MAY BE BROUGHT ONLY IN AN INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY, NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY CLASS, CONSOLIDATED OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING. If this class waiver is found unenforceable for a claim, that claim will proceed in court under section 14 and not in arbitration.
If 25 or more similar arbitration demands are filed against us by or with the help of the same law firm or coordinated group, they will be administered in batches under the JAMS Mass Arbitration Procedures, and the parties will cooperate in good faith on a small number of initial proceedings before the remaining demands advance. Applicable statutes of limitations are paused while a demand waits for its batch.
You can opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing support@farsideresearch.com within 30 days after you first accept these terms, with your name, account email and a statement that you opt out of arbitration. The 30-day window runs from the earlier of the date your account was created or the date you first accepted these terms, and does not reopen when these terms are updated except as stated in section 15. Opting out does not affect any other part of these terms.
14. Governing law and venue
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of West Virginia and applicable United States federal law, without regard to conflict of law rules. Any claim that is not subject to arbitration will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in West Virginia, and you and we consent to their personal jurisdiction. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For a material change, we will give notice by email or in the app at least 15 days before it takes effect, unless the change is required by law or needed to address a security risk sooner. Changes do not apply to claims that arose before the change took effect. If we materially change section 13, you may opt out of the changed section 13 within 30 days of our notice without affecting any earlier arbitration agreement between us. If you keep using the Service after a change takes effect, you accept the updated terms. If you do not agree, stop using the Service and cancel your plan.
16. General
These terms, together with the policies they reference, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. If any provision is found unenforceable, it will be enforced to the maximum extent possible and the rest of these terms stay in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these terms without our written consent; we may assign them to an affiliate or in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. Neither party is liable for delays caused by events beyond its reasonable control. You must comply with applicable export control and sanctions laws when using the Service, and you confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. embargo and are not on a U.S. government restricted-party list.
We send notices to the email address on your account. Send notices to us at support@farsideresearch.com or by mail to Farside Research LLC, PO Box 83, Inwood, WV 25428.
