A commercial license has its own portal at licenses.farsideresearch.com, with its own sign-in. It is separate from the Farside Research app: a research account doesn't sign you in to the portal, and a portal login doesn't sign you in to the research app.
Your first sign-in
Buying a license doesn't need an account. At checkout a portal login is created for the billing email, and a setup link is emailed to it.
- Open the setup link from the email and choose a password.
- Add Your name. People who help manage the license see it, and so does the activity log.
- You land on Your licenses, which lists every license this login owns or helps manage, with your role on each.
If the link expired or the email never arrived, go to the password reset page, enter the billing email and ask for a new link. Check spam first. If the person who bought the license has left, anyone who already manages it can invite you; otherwise contact us with the license key's last characters.
You can sign in two ways with the same login: a password, or an emailed sign-in link that works for 15 minutes.
The license page
Open a license from Your licenses to see its band, status, current term, what it's paid through, the engines it covers, the agreement version and when it was bought.
The license key
Owners and admins can reveal and copy the key. Billing contacts never see the full key.
If you think the key was exposed, click Rotate key and confirm with your password. The new key works right away and the old one stops working. Rotating needs a password, so if you've only ever used emailed sign-in links, set a password under Security first.
Billing, renewal and invoices
The Billing tab is for owners, admins and billing contacts.
- Automatic renewal can be turned on or off. Turning it off means the license ends when the current term does.
- Next year's band lets you move to the band that fits your company size at renewal. Above 1,000 people, renewal is by quote: use Send us a request.
- Invoices lists every invoice and receipt, each with a PDF and, for anything unpaid, a pay link.
- Payment method and billing details opens the Stripe billing portal; you come back to the license portal when you finish.
License fees are not refundable except where the law requires. You can try every engine free under the AGPL before you buy.
Documents
The Documents tab has the license certificate as a PDF and the license agreement. The certificate is generated from the live license each time you download it, so it always shows the current band and term. Owners and admins can download it.
People who manage the license
The Team tab lists everyone with access. Owners and admins can invite people and change or remove access; a license can have up to 25 people.
- Click Invite someone.
- Enter their Work email and pick a Role: Admin (everything the owner can do: the key, billing, documents and people) or Billing contact (renewal, band, payment method and invoices only).
- They get an email with a link to set up their own login. Until they do, the list shows them as invited, with Resend invite.
Admins and billing contacts can leave a license from the same list; the owner stays. They lose access right away, and someone who manages it can invite them again.
Activity and security
Activity is the log of what happened across your licenses and your account: key reveals and rotations, invitations and role changes, renewal and band changes, certificate downloads.
Security holds your name and password, and the browsers signed in to your login. Sessions end after 7 days unused and after 30 days at most. Sign out everywhere ends every session, including this one. Five wrong passwords in a row lock password sign-in for 15 minutes.
